At Arasu Dental Care, our multispecialty team treats the full range of dental problems under one roof at our R.S. Puram and Saibaba Colony branches — so you're seen by the right specialist for your problem, not passed around.

This page helps you match your symptom to the treatment and the specialist that handles it, gives you a realistic idea of cost, and tells you when a problem needs attention today rather than next week. Where a problem needs its own detailed explanation, we link you straight to it.

Perspective first

Most dental problems are common — and treatable

~62%
of Indian adults have tooth decay — around half the population overall, rising once you're over 18 (Indian population research, Pandey et al. 2021).
1 in 2
Indian adults has some form of gum disease — roughly 320 million people (meta-analysis of Indian studies, Janakiram et al.).

If you're worried, it helps to know how ordinary these problems are. Research across the Indian population suggests around half of adults have tooth decay — closer to 62% once you're over 18 — and about one in two Indian adults has some form of gum disease, which works out to roughly 320 million people. So a cavity or bleeding gums doesn't make you unusual; it makes you typical. What matters is catching it early.

The catch is that many dental problems are silent at the start. Early decay usually causes no pain and shows up only on an X-ray, and gum disease often bleeds a little before it ever hurts. That's why we don't treat "no pain" as "no problem" — and why a check-up every six months is the cheapest dentistry you'll ever have. Left alone, a small filling becomes a root canal, and a root canal becomes an extraction.

Common dental problems and solutions

Match your symptom to the right treatment

Use this as a starting point, not a diagnosis — the same symptom can have more than one cause, which is why we examine before we treat. Each problem below links to a page that explains it in full.

Tooth problems

What you're noticingWhat it usually meansWho treats it / what's involved
Tooth pain or a throbbing acheDeep decay, infection, or a cracked tooth reaching the nerveOur endodontist — often a root canal to save the tooth, sometimes a filling if caught early
Sensitivity to hot, cold or sweetExposed dentine from worn enamel, a cavity or gum recessionGeneral dentist — from a filling or desensitising treatment to gum care, depending on cause
A broken or chipped toothTrauma, biting something hard, or a large old filling giving wayRestoration — a filling, crown (tooth cap) or, if the nerve is exposed, a root canal first
A visible cavity or dark spot / decayTooth decay eating into the tooth surfaceGeneral dentist — a filling while it's small, a crown if more of the tooth is lost
A loose adult toothAdvanced gum disease or an injury loosening the supportOur periodontist — gum treatment to stabilise it; replacement only if it can't be saved
A missing tooth or gap after extractionTooth already lost to decay, gum disease or injuryImplant, bridge or denture — our implantologist and prosthodontist will explain which suits you

Gum problems

What you're noticingWhat it usually meansWho treats it / what's involved
Bleeding gums when you brushEarly gum disease (gingivitis) from plaque along the gumlineOur periodontist — a professional clean (scaling) usually reverses this stage
Persistent bad breathGum infection, trapped food, or decay releasing odourGum treatment plus a hygiene review — we find the source rather than mask it
Receding gums / longer-looking teethGum recession from disease or hard brushing, exposing the rootPeriodontal care, and gum grafting where recession is advanced
Swollen, painful gums or a gum boilAn active infection or abscess that won't settle on its ownSeen promptly — this often needs same-week attention (see urgent signs below)

Bite & alignment problems

What you're noticingWhat it usually meansWho treats it / what's involved
Crooked, crowded or gapped teethTeeth erupted out of line, or drifted over timeOur orthodontist — braces or clear aligners, chosen to your case
An overbite, underbite or crossbiteThe upper and lower teeth don't meet correctlyOrthodontic correction; skeletal cases may need jaw treatment
A gummy smileToo much gum shows when you smileGum contouring, or orthodontics where the cause is the bite
Jaw pain, clicking or lockingA TMJ (jaw joint) disorder, often with grindingOur founder, an orthodontist and TMJ specialist — bite splints and joint care
A starting point, not a diagnosis. The same symptom can have more than one cause — sensitivity can be a worn filling or receding gums; bad breath can be gum disease or decay. An examination (and where needed, an X-ray) tells us which, before anything is treated.

Dental problem specialist near you

Which specialist do you actually need?

One of the advantages of a multispecialty clinic is that you don't have to work this out yourself — but it helps to know who does what, so you know you're in the right hands.

Root canal careSaves painful, infected or decayed teeth with root canal treatment. Ask for our endodontist when the problem is deep tooth pain.

PeriodontistTreats gums: bleeding, recession, loose teeth and gum infection, including laser-assisted care and grafting.

OrthodontistCorrects alignment and bite with braces and aligners; our founder also handles jaw-joint (TMJ) problems.

Oral surgeonHandles difficult extractions, wisdom teeth and surgical cases.

Implantologist & prosthodontistReplace missing teeth with implants, bridges and dentures.

If you're still unsure, that's exactly what a consultation is for. We examine, tell you honestly what's going on, and route you to the right specialist on our team — often at the same visit. You can also meet our doctors before you come in.

Same-day signs

When is a dental problem urgent?

Most dental problems can wait for a normal appointment. A few shouldn't. Come in the same day, or call us straight away, if you have:

See us the same day for any of these

  • Facial or gum swelling, especially with fever — an infection may be spreading and needs prompt treatment.
  • A knocked-out or badly broken tooth from an injury — a knocked-out adult tooth is most likely to be saved if you're seen within the first hour.
  • Severe, unrelenting toothache that painkillers aren't touching.
  • Uncontrolled bleeding after an extraction or injury.
  • A mouth ulcer or sore that hasn't healed in three weeks — worth having checked, even when it doesn't hurt.

We're open every day from 10 AM to 8:30 PM, so you rarely have to wait long for help. If you're not sure whether something counts as urgent, call and describe it — we'd rather you asked.

Straight talk

Honest considerations before you book

What we'll tell you plainly

Not every problem needs treatment today, and not every tooth can be saved. Some issues — a tiny stain, mild sensitivity that comes and goes — we'll monitor rather than rush to treat. Others, like advanced gum disease, can be controlled rather than reversed: we can stop it getting worse and keep your teeth longer, but we won't promise to turn the clock back. And where a tooth is too far gone, we'll tell you honestly that saving it isn't the better option, and talk you through replacement instead.

We'd rather you trust us with the small problems than feel sold to on the big ones. At your consultation we explain what we see, what your options are, and what each one costs — and then it's your decision. Results naturally vary from person to person depending on the condition of your teeth and gums and how early you're seen.

Why Arasu

Why patients bring their dental problems to Arasu

The reason a multispecialty clinic matters for "dental problems" specifically is that many problems overlap — a painful tooth may also have a gum issue, or a missing tooth may need both surgery and a new crown.

Every specialist under one roof

The endodontist, periodontist, orthodontist, oral surgeon, implantologist and prosthodontist work in the same building — so your care is coordinated, not fragmented across clinics.

Award-recognised founder, credentialled team

Our founder, Dr. P.S. Sree Cumar, was named Dentist of the Year – South Region at the 2023 Economic Times Healthcare Awards, and the team behind him is separately credentialled in each specialty.

Open when a problem flares up

Both branches are open every day, 10 AM to 8:30 PM, with sedation available for anxious patients and longer procedures.

Pricing explained before we start

You'll know your options and what each costs before any treatment begins — with EMI and flexible payment available.

FAQs

Dental problems: frequently asked questions

It depends on the problem: deep tooth pain usually means an endodontist (root canal), bleeding or receding gums a periodontist, crooked teeth or a bad bite an orthodontist, and a missing tooth an implantologist. At Arasu Dental Care all of these are in-house, so you can book one consultation and we'll route you to the right specialist — often on the same visit.

Possibly, yes. Many dental problems — early decay and gum disease especially — cause no pain until they're advanced, and are picked up only on examination or X-ray. Being seen early usually means simpler, cheaper treatment, which is why we recommend a check-up every six months even when nothing hurts.

Bleeding gums are the earliest sign of gum disease, which affects around half of Indian adults. At this stage it's usually reversible with a professional clean and better home care. Left alone it can progress to the point where teeth loosen, so it's worth having checked rather than ignored.

Wherever a tooth is viable, we prefer to save it — a root canal and crown, or gum treatment to stabilise it, is almost always better than losing it. We'll only recommend removal when a tooth is too damaged to save, and then we'll talk you through replacing it with an implant or bridge.

Come in the same day for facial or gum swelling with fever, a knocked-out or badly broken tooth, severe unrelenting pain, uncontrolled bleeding, or a sore that hasn't healed in three weeks. We're open every day until 8:30 PM — if you're unsure, call and describe it and we'll advise.

Almost everything is handled in-house across our two Coimbatore branches, because we have the full range of specialists on the team. That's the main reason patients with overlapping problems — say a painful tooth that also has a gum issue — choose a multispecialty clinic over a single-dentist practice.

Still have a question? Call either branch, or book a visit and we'll answer it in person — open all 7 days.
