Broken Tooth Treatment in Coimbatore

A broken, chipped or cracked tooth is almost always fixable — and at Arasu Dental Care, how we fix it depends on how deep the damage goes, not on a one-size-fits-all answer. A small chip may need nothing more than a 30-minute bonding repair; a crack that has reached the nerve may need root canal treatment and a protective tooth cap (crown). What matters most is timing: a crack never repairs itself, and the longer it is left, the fewer options remain for saving the tooth.

At both our Coimbatore branches, broken-tooth cases are assessed the same day whenever you call during working hours — we are open all seven days, 10:00 AM to 8:30 PM. Repairs are handled by the right specialist for the depth of the damage: our cosmetic dentist for bonding and laminates (veneers), our endodontist for cracks that involve the nerve, and our prosthodontist for crowns and rebuilds.

Chipped, cracked or fractured tooth

How serious is your broken tooth?

7.7%
of adults in a hospital-based Indian study had suffered a traumatic injury to their front teeth — two-wheeler accidents were the single leading cause, with upper front teeth affected around 8× more often than lower ones.
1 in 5
Barely one in five people in the same research sought treatment immediately — and delay is exactly what turns a repairable tooth into a lost one.
~50%
of children's dental injuries come from simple falls at home — a broken baby tooth should always be checked, gently.

Tooth injuries are far more common than most people realise — and cracked tooth treatment, chipped tooth repair and fractured tooth treatment each start from the same question: how deep does the damage go? Use this as a first guide to what your break likely needs — then let us confirm it with an examination and an X-ray, because the visible damage and the real damage are often different:

Broken tooth repair in Coimbatore

How we repair a broken tooth — from smallest fix to full rebuild

We always choose the least invasive repair that will genuinely last — never more treatment than the tooth needs, and never less than will protect it. After examining the tooth and taking an X-ray to see what the eye can't (a crack below the gum, damage near the nerve), we'll walk you through exactly which of these your tooth needs and why:

Composite bonding

For chips and small breaks

For a small chip, our cosmetic dentist rebuilds the missing corner with a tooth-coloured composite resin, shaped and polished to match the tooth around it — usually in a single visit of 30–60 minutes, with no drilling of healthy tooth in most cases. Dental bonding is the fastest and most economical repair we offer, and for a front-tooth chip it is often all you need. Its honest limitation: composite can stain over years and can re-chip under heavy biting, so we may advise against it for large breaks on back teeth.

Laminates (veneers)

For front teeth where appearance matters

When a front tooth is chipped or worn along the edge and you want a finish that holds its colour and shine for years, a laminate (veneer) is the step up from bonding: a thin porcelain or composite shell covering the front surface. Veneer cases at Arasu Dental Care are planned by Dr. L.S. Priyanka — our cosmetic dentist, whose specialisation in conservative dentistry means the repair removes the least possible healthy tooth structure.

Tooth cap (crown)

For larger breaks and cracked teeth

When too much tooth is missing for bonding to hold — or a crack runs through the body of the tooth — a tooth cap (crown) covers and holds the whole tooth together, so biting forces can't spread the crack further. This is the standard of care for cracked teeth: a crack cannot be glued back, but a well-fitted crown lets most cracked teeth function comfortably for many years. You'll choose between metal, PFM, zirconia and E-max materials — we'll tell you plainly where a costlier material is worth it (visible front teeth, heavy biters) and where it isn't.

Root canal treatment + crown

When the break reaches the nerve

If the fracture has exposed the pulp — bleeding from the break, a visible pink spot, or sharp spontaneous pain — the nerve is involved, and a filling or crown alone would seal an infection inside. Root canal treatment removes the damaged pulp so you keep the tooth; a crown then protects the repaired structure. This is routine work for us: it is led by Dr. L.S. Priyanka, our endodontist with more than 1,000 root canal procedures behind her, and with modern anaesthesia the visit feels much like having a filling. Across modern practice root canals succeed in around 95% of cases — which is why saving your natural tooth is always our first choice over removing it.

Extraction and replacement

The honest last resort

A tooth split vertically through the root, or broken below the bone, usually cannot be saved — and we will tell you that directly rather than attempt a repair that is destined to fail. Tooth removal is handled by our oral and maxillofacial surgeon, and we plan the replacement — a dental implant or bridge — at the same consultation, so you are never left with a gap and no plan.

Before you reach us

What to do in the first hour

If a piece of tooth has broken off:

  1. Rinse your mouth gently with warm water. If there is bleeding, press with clean gauze for 10 minutes.
  2. Keep the broken fragment in milk or saliva (not water, not tissue) and bring it with you — front-tooth fragments can sometimes be bonded back.
  3. Cover any sharp edge with sugar-free chewing gum or dental wax to protect your tongue and cheek.
  4. Avoid chewing on that side, and avoid very hot or cold food if the tooth is sensitive.

Knocked-out permanent tooth? Hold it by the crown (never the root), rinse briefly in milk, place it back in the socket if you can — or keep it in milk — and call us immediately. Re-implantation success is highest within 30–60 minutes.

Straight talk

Honest considerations before you decide

What we'll tell you plainly

  • A crack is managed, not reversed. No material re-joins cracked tooth structure. A crown stops the crack from spreading and lets the tooth work normally — but a crack that later extends below the bone can still mean losing the tooth. Early treatment is what tilts the odds in your favour.
  • Bonding is quick, not the most durable repair. Composite repairs typically serve well for years but can chip or stain and may need refreshing. For a large break on a molar, a crown is usually the more durable spend.
  • No pain does not mean no problem. A chip that causes no pain can still leave dentine exposed, and decay enters a broken surface faster than an intact one. Small breaks are also the cheapest to fix — the economics favour coming in early.
  • Sometimes the fragment can be reattached — sometimes not. We'll try when the piece is intact and the fit is sound, but a reattached fragment is never as strong as the original tooth, and we'll say so before you choose it.
  • Results vary. How long any repair lasts depends on the size of the break, your bite, grinding habits and oral hygiene. At your consultation we'll give you a realistic expectation for your tooth, not a generic promise.

Why Arasu

Why have your broken tooth treated at Arasu Dental Care?

A broken tooth sits at the junction of three specialities — cosmetic repair, root canal care and crown work — and at Arasu Dental Care all three are in the same building.

The right specialist, start to finish

Your bonding or laminate is planned by Dr. L.S. Priyanka, an endodontist and cosmetic dentist with over 1,000 root canal procedures and extensive smile-design work; crowns and rebuilds draw on our prosthodontist's 12+ years of experience including international practice; surgical cases go to our oral and maxillofacial surgeon.

Never referred out mid-treatment

All three specialities are under one roof, so the specialist who starts your case finishes it — no mid-treatment referrals across town, no re-explaining your case from scratch.

Open when the injury happens

A broken tooth never picks a convenient time. We are open every day of the week, 10:00 AM to 8:30 PM — including Sundays — at both branches, with same-day assessment when you call during working hours.

You know the cost before we start

FAQs

Broken tooth treatment — frequently asked questions

Yes — and sooner is cheaper. A chip that doesn't hurt can still expose dentine, invite decay into the break, and cut your tongue or cheek. Small breaks are usually a one-visit bonding repair; the same tooth left for months can end up needing a root canal and crown. We'll tell you honestly if it's minor enough to simply monitor.

No. Unlike bone, tooth structure has no blood supply to repair itself — a crack can only stay the same or spread. Treatment doesn't reverse the crack; it stops it from progressing. That's why we treat 'pain on biting that comes and goes' as a reason to be seen promptly, not something to watch.

For a knocked-out tooth: immediately — re-implantation success is highest within the hour. For a break with pain, bleeding or a visible pink spot: the same day. For sensitivity to hot or cold: within 24–48 hours. For a small chip with no pain: within a few days. When in doubt, call either branch and describe it — we'll tell you which category you're in.

Often, yes. Composite bonding for a small-to-medium chip is typically completed in a single 30–60 minute appointment, matched to your tooth colour, and you can eat normally the same day. Larger breaks needing a laminate or a tooth cap take two to three visits, since the final piece is custom-made.

At Arasu Dental Care, a consultation is ₹300–₹500, composite laminates run ₹3,000–₹8,000, root canal treatment ₹5,000–₹7,000, and tooth caps vary by material — from metal to E-max (₹12,000–₹25,000). The honest answer for your tooth comes after an examination and X-ray, and we quote the full cost before starting.

Sometimes. If the fragment is intact and the break is clean, reattaching it can give an excellent colour match. Keep it in milk or saliva and bring it in. Be aware a reattached fragment is not as strong as the original tooth — for a biting edge under load, we may recommend bonding or a laminate instead, and we'll explain why.

It should always be checked — around half of children's dental injuries come from ordinary falls at home, and damage to a baby tooth can affect the permanent tooth developing underneath. Our pediatric dentist will assess whether it needs a repair, a protective cap, or simply monitoring, in a child-friendly way that doesn't create fear of the next visit.

Still have a question? Call either branch, or book a visit and we'll answer it in person — open all 7 days. For other symptoms, start at our dental problems guide.
