A written, itemised quote after a short exam — not a “starting from” number that climbs later
At Arasu Dental Care, a tooth cap — what dentists call a dental crown — costs between ₹5,000 and ₹25,000 per tooth. Where you land in that range depends mainly on the material you choose and on whether the tooth needs any work, such as a root canal, before the cap goes on. This page breaks the cost down honestly, so you know what to expect before you sit in the chair.
We fit tooth caps at both our Coimbatore branches, in R.S. Puram and Saibaba Colony, and we quote you the full figure after a short examination — not a vague “starting from” number that climbs once you’ve committed.

The Numbers
The material is the single biggest thing that moves the price. Here’s what each type of cap costs per tooth at Arasu Dental Care.
| Cap material | Cost per tooth | Usually chosen for |
|---|---|---|
| Metal / metal-ceramic (PFM) cap | ₹5,000 – ₹8,000 | Back teeth, where strength matters more than looks |
| Zirconia cap (standard) | ₹7,000 – ₹15,000 | Most teeth — strong and tooth-coloured |
| Premium / high-translucency zirconia | ₹15,000 – ₹25,000 | Front teeth that need the closest colour match |
| E-Max / all-ceramic cap | ₹12,000 – ₹25,000 | Front teeth, where a natural look matters most |
Reading The Price
Two people can pay very different amounts for a tooth cap, and it’s rarely arbitrary. Here’s what actually shifts the number:
Material. As the table shows, a metal cap is the lower-cost option; zirconia and E-Max cost more because of the material itself and the lab work behind them.
Which tooth it’s on. A cap on a visible front tooth is usually made from a more natural-looking — and pricier — material than one on a back molar no one sees.
Whether the tooth needs treatment first. A cap sits on top of a prepared tooth. If that tooth first needs a root canal (around ₹5,000–₹7,000) or a build-up to rebuild lost structure, those are added to the cap cost.
Imaging. Some cases need an X-ray or scan first — a routine IOPA X-ray is around ₹200–₹300, an OPG ₹400–₹600, and a CBCT scan (only for complex cases) ₹1,000–₹4,000.
Number of teeth. Several caps in one treatment plan may be quoted differently from a single cap.
No Surprises
It’s a fair question to ask any clinic what a crown quote does and doesn’t include. We’d rather you ask us than assume — so here’s exactly where the line sits at Arasu.
Honest Considerations
The lowest-priced cap isn’t automatically the wrong choice — and the most expensive isn’t automatically the right one. What matters is matching the material to the tooth.
A metal cap is hard-wearing and sits happily on a back molar for years; its only real drawback is that it looks metallic, which is why we rarely suggest it for a tooth that shows when you smile. Zirconia is our common recommendation for most teeth — strong enough for everyday chewing and close to a natural tooth in appearance. E-Max, an all-ceramic material, gives the most natural look and is often chosen for front teeth. You can read more about the tooth-coloured option on our zirconia caps page, and see where crowns fit among dental bridges and other restorations.
On how long they last, the research is reassuring across materials — so individual results still vary with how you look after the tooth.
Our honest take: paying for E-Max on a hidden back tooth rarely makes sense, and choosing the lowest-cost metal cap for a front tooth usually disappoints. We’ll tell you which material genuinely fits your tooth and your budget, not the one that costs the most.
Longevity figures are general clinical findings, not a promise for any individual case.

FAQs
At Arasu Dental Care, a tooth cap (dental crown) costs between ₹5,000 and ₹25,000 per tooth, depending on the material. Metal and metal-ceramic caps are the lower-cost options; zirconia and E-Max caps cost more. Your exact figure is confirmed after an examination.
Zirconia is a stronger, tooth-coloured material and takes more lab work to make, so it costs more than a metal cap. For a visible tooth, most people feel the natural look is worth it; for a hidden back tooth, a metal cap may do the job for less.
No — a cap and a root canal are separate treatments. If your tooth needs a root canal before the cap (around ₹5,000–₹7,000), we quote it separately and explain why it’s needed before we start.
Not in the sense that cheaper is always worse — the right cap depends on the tooth. A lower-cost metal cap is fine for a back molar; a front tooth usually needs a more natural-looking material. We recommend the material that suits your tooth, not the priciest one.
Most caps last many years. Research puts five-year survival at roughly 95–98% across common materials, with a good number still going strong past ten years. Good hygiene, treating any teeth grinding, and regular check-ups all help your cap last longer. Individual results vary.
Yes. For higher-value work we offer EMI, including no-cost EMI options, so you can spread the cost. We also accept UPI, cards, cash and net banking, and help with insurance claims where your policy covers crowns.
Prices on this page are indicative and subject to individual consultation. Consult our dentists for a personalised assessment. Individual results vary based on the tooth, the material chosen, oral hygiene and habits such as teeth grinding.
