Fitted by an award-winning MDS orthodontist · Two clinics in Coimbatore
If your teeth are crowded, gapped or sitting at angles that make them hard to clean — or your upper and lower teeth don't meet the way they should — braces are how we move them into a straighter, healthier position and fix the way your bite works. At Arasu Dental Care your braces are planned and fitted by Dr. P.S. Sree Cumar, our founder and MDS orthodontist — a Fellow of the World Federation of Orthodontists (USA) and Dentist of the Year (South Region) at the Economic Times Healthcare Awards 2023 — across both our Coimbatore branches.

Are Braces Right For You?
Braces help when the position of your teeth, or the way your jaws meet, is causing a cosmetic or functional problem. You'll usually benefit if you have:
Crooked and crowded teeth aren't only an appearance issue. Teeth that overlap are harder to clean, which over time raises the risk of decay and gum disease — so straightening them protects your teeth as well as your smile.
Are you too old for braces? No. Healthy teeth can be moved at almost any age, and adult treatment has grown quickly as discreet options like ceramic and lingual braces have become widely available. Adult bone remodels a little more slowly than a teenager's, so treatment can take somewhat longer — something we factor into your plan honestly at the consultation. Individual results vary with your starting position, age and how closely the plan is followed.
Types Of Braces
There's no single right brace. The right fit depends on what your teeth need to do, how visible you're comfortable being, and your budget. All four systems are available here, so the recommendation is built around your teeth — not around what we happen to stock.
| Type of braces | How visible | Relative cost | Best suited to |
|---|---|---|---|
| Metal braces | Most visible — metal brackets & wire | Most affordable | Most cases, including complex ones; children & teens |
| Ceramic braces (tooth-coloured braces) | Subtle — brackets blend with the teeth | Mid-range | Adults & image-conscious patients who still need fixed braces |
| Self-ligating braces | Same as the metal or ceramic version chosen | Higher | Patients who want fewer, more spaced-out adjustment visits |
| Lingual (hidden) braces | Invisible from the front — fixed behind the teeth | Highest fixed option | Adults who want a fully hidden fixed brace |
Honest Comparison
One of the most common questions we hear. Both straighten teeth — they simply suit different people and different cases. Here's the honest comparison.
| Fixed braces | Clear aligners | |
|---|---|---|
| Visibility | Visible (metal) to subtle (ceramic) or hidden (lingual) | Nearly invisible |
| Removable? | Fixed — they work continuously | Removable for eating & cleaning |
| Best for | Complex crowding & bite correction; all ages | Mild to moderate cases; disciplined teens & adults |
| Discipline needed | Low — they're always on | High — must be worn 20–22 hours a day |
| Eating | Some foods to avoid | Eat anything (trays removed) |
| Cost | Generally lower entry point | Generally higher |
The Process
We examine your teeth and bite, take X-rays, photographs and digital records, and confirm whether braces are right, which type fits, and whether anything — a cleaning, a filling, gum treatment — should be handled first.
We clean the teeth, bond the brackets and connect the wire. Fitting is comfortable — there's no drilling — and takes about an hour to an hour and a half.
You come in every four to eight weeks (longer with self-ligating braces) to adjust the wire and keep your teeth moving to plan. We're open every day until 8:30 PM, so visits fit around work and school.
When your teeth reach their corrected position, we remove the braces, polish the enamel clean, and fit a retainer to hold the result.
Honest Considerations
Brackets and wires trap food, so brushing and flossing around them properly matters — neglect it and you risk white marks on the enamel or decay around the brackets. We show you exactly how, and usually recommend a professional teeth cleaning during treatment to keep your gums healthy.
A poking wire or a rough bracket edge is annoying but rarely urgent — orthodontic wax solves most of it at home, and we fix anything persistent at your next visit. Our orthodontic wax guide covers exactly what to do.
Very hard, sticky or chewy foods can pop a bracket off. It's an adjustment, not a life sentence — most patients settle into it within the first couple of weeks.
Once braces come off, teeth naturally tend to drift back while the surrounding bone and fibres settle — most movement in the first year. Skipping your retainer is the single biggest reason results slip. You'll wear one full-time at first, then usually just at night, often long-term. Individual results vary with how consistently the retainer is worn.
Cost
Braces pricing varies more than most treatments, which is why quotes around the city differ so widely. What you pay depends on the type of braces, how complex your case is, how long treatment runs, and what's included — records, adjustments, removal and retainers may be bundled or charged separately. These are our typical ranges.
| Braces type | Typical range at Arasu | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Metal braces | ₹30,000 – ₹50,000 | Most affordable; handles complex cases |
| Ceramic braces | ₹35,000 – ₹70,000 | Tooth-coloured, discreet |
| Self-ligating braces | ₹50,000 – ₹80,000 | Fewer, more spaced-out visits |
| Lingual (hidden) braces | ₹70,000 – ₹1,00,000 | Fixed behind the teeth; invisible from the front |
Your exact figure depends on your case, and we give it to you in writing after examining your teeth — with everything included spelled out, so a lower headline number elsewhere doesn't hide missing records, retainers or adjustment visits. EMI options are available to spread the cost across your treatment.
Get Started
Whether it's metal braces for your teenager or a hidden option for yourself, the clearest next step is an examination. We'll assess your bite, walk you through the options that genuinely fit, and give you an honest plan and written quote.

FAQs
At Arasu, metal braces typically range ₹30,000–₹50,000, ceramic ₹35,000–₹70,000, self-ligating ₹50,000–₹80,000 and lingual ₹70,000–₹1,00,000, depending on your case. You get an exact written figure after an examination, and EMI options are available. See our braces cost guide for the full breakdown.
Both straighten teeth the same way. Metal braces are the strongest and most affordable; ceramic braces are tooth-coloured and far less noticeable, which is why many adults prefer them — they just need good cleaning to avoid staining. Dr. Sree Cumar recommends the right fit based on your case and budget.
Most cases take around 18 to 24 months. Simple cases can finish sooner and complex bite corrections take longer. You get a realistic estimate for your own teeth at the consultation, and results vary from person to person.
Fitting the braces doesn't hurt. Your teeth may feel tender for a few days after fitting and after each adjustment, but it settles quickly and is easily managed with soft food and ordinary pain relief.
No — roughly one in three orthodontic patients today is an adult, and healthy teeth can be moved at almost any age. Treatment may take a little longer than for a teenager, and discreet options like ceramic or lingual braces are available if visibility is a concern.
Braces are better for complex cases and bite correction, and they don't rely on you remembering to wear them. Clear aligners suit milder cases and offer near-invisible, removable convenience — if you'll wear them 20–22 hours a day. We advise honestly on which fits your case.
Sometimes — if the problem is genuinely limited to mild front-teeth crowding or spacing, a shorter, limited treatment can work. But if your bite is involved, treating only the front teeth can create new problems. We tell you honestly which category your case falls into after an examination.
Yes. After braces come off, teeth naturally tend to drift back — most of that movement happens in the first year — so a retainer is essential to hold your result. Full-time at first, then usually just at night, often long-term.
