Preventive dentistry · catch it while it's small
At Arasu Dental Care, a dental checkup is how you catch problems while they are still small, comfortable and inexpensive to fix. A cavity found today usually needs a simple filling; the same cavity found two years from now may need a root canal and a crown — or cost you the tooth. Research suggests more than half of Indians have tooth decay, and most of it sits untreated for one simple reason: nothing hurts yet.

Been more than six months since a dentist looked at your teeth? That's exactly when a checkup is worth it — we'll examine you first and tell you plainly what your mouth needs. R.S. Puram: +91 88380 22157 · Saibaba Colony: +91 74491 88777
Where To Start
If you are symptom-free and it has been six months, the answer is simply yes — that interval is what lets us catch decay and gum problems before they announce themselves. But don't wait for your six-month mark if you notice any of these.
Gums that bleed when you brush or floss.
Sensitivity to hot, cold or sweet foods.
Bad breath that doesn't clear with brushing.
Food constantly catching between the same two teeth.
An old filling, cap or bridge that suddenly feels different.
A dark spot, rough edge or visible stain on a tooth.
Jaw pain, clicking, or teeth that feel loose.
It's simply been six months or more since your last checkup.
The honest reality is that pain is a late symptom. Decay and gum disease do most of their damage silently — studies of Indian adults aged 35–44 find meaningful gum attachment loss in roughly 4 out of 10 people, most of whom had no idea. By the time a tooth aches at night, the inexpensive options are usually gone. A checkup exists precisely to get there first.
Some patients need to come more often than every six months — people with diabetes, smokers, pregnant women, anyone in braces or aligners, and anyone with a history of gum disease treatment. We will tell you plainly which recall interval fits your risk, not a one-size-fits-all rule.
What To Expect
A full dental checkup with us typically takes 20–30 minutes. Here is exactly what you can expect — no surprises, and nothing done without your agreement.
STEP 1
Your history, medications, past dental work and — most importantly — anything that has been bothering you. Anxious patients tell us so; we adjust pace, not standards.
STEP 2
Every tooth surface, every filling, crown and bridge, your bite and your gums — plus tongue, cheeks and palate. That soft-tissue screening doubles as an early oral cancer check many routine exams skip.
STEP 3
Decay between teeth and infection at the root are invisible to the eye. When justified, we image in-house: IOPA for one tooth, OPG for the full jaw, or a CBCT 3D scan for wisdom teeth or implants — lower radiation, results on screen in minutes.
STEP 4
Where indicated, we measure gum pocket depths. Early gum infection (gingivitis) is the one stage of gum disease that is fully reversible — which is why we check for it before it becomes periodontitis, which can only be controlled.
STEP 5
A checkup and a cleaning are separate procedures, but most patients combine them. Our teeth cleaning and polishing removes the tartar brushing can't — same chair, same appointment.
STEP 6
What needs attention now, what can safely wait, what each option costs, and what happens if you do nothing. You leave knowing where you stand — and no treatment begins until you understand it and agree to it.
Findings don't get referred out — they get walked down the corridor. Deep gum pockets go to our periodontist. A suspicious root goes to our endodontist Dr. L.S. Priyanka, who has performed over 1,000 root canal procedures. A child's bite concern goes to our founder Dr. P.S. Sree Cumar, MDS, an orthodontist and senior lecturer. One roof, one record, one plan.
The Real Value
The value of a routine dental checkup in Coimbatore isn't the 30 minutes in the chair — it's the expensive appointments it prevents. What we routinely intercept:
Visible only on X-ray, fixable with a tooth-coloured filling when caught early instead of a root canal later. Caries prevalence in India climbs from around 60% in teenagers to nearly 78% by ages 35–44 — checkups interrupt that curve.
Gingivitis reversed with a professional cleaning costs a fraction of the flap surgery that advanced periodontitis demands.
A leaking filling or a loose crown caught early protects the tooth underneath it — before the problem reaches the nerve.
Ulcers and patches that deserve a specialist's eye long before they become serious, through routine oral-cancer screening at every exam.
Spotted at the age when correction is simplest, through a child dental checkup with our pediatric team.
Flattened edges and hairline cracks you'd never notice in a mirror — caught before they split a tooth.
Straight Answers
We'd rather set expectations honestly than oversell a routine visit.

Patient Reviews
Went in for a routine checkup with no complaints. They found early decay between two teeth on the X-ray that I couldn't feel at all — one small filling and it was done. Exactly the kind of thing you'd never catch without going in.
Honest is the word. My gums were bleeding a bit; they did the exam, said it was early and reversible, cleaned it and told me no other treatment was needed. Charged only the consultation. No upselling whatsoever.
Booked a checkup for my whole family on a Sunday evening — impossible at most clinics. Parents and both kids, one visit, one record. The dentist explained everything on the screen so we could see it ourselves.
They only took an X-ray when it was actually needed and explained why first. Clear written plan with costs before anything started. Felt looked after rather than processed.
FAQs
Every six months for most people. If you have diabetes, smoke, are pregnant, wear braces or have had gum disease, we may recommend every three to four months — we'll set an interval based on your individual risk and explain why.
Typically 20–30 minutes for the examination and discussion. Add 10–15 minutes if X-rays are needed, and around 30 minutes more if you choose to have scaling and polishing in the same visit.
No. The examination is non-invasive — we look, measure and photograph. If we find something that needs treatment, that procedure is planned separately and performed comfortably under appropriate anaesthesia where required.
No. We take X-rays only when they will genuinely change the diagnosis or the plan — for example, suspected decay between teeth or infection at a root. Many routine visits need no imaging at all.
They are separate procedures, priced separately — the consultation is ₹300–₹500 and scaling with polishing is ₹1,500–₹3,000 — but most patients combine them in a single visit for convenience.
We show you what we found, explain every reasonable option with its cost and trade-offs, and tell you what happens if you wait. The decision is yours. Because our specialists work under one roof, treatment can usually begin without any outside referral.
Yes — we see children from their first tooth onwards, and family appointments are common. Our pediatric checkups are designed to make the first visits positive, not frightening.
