Tooth Pain Treatment in Coimbatore

At Arasu Dental Care, tooth pain treatment starts the day you reach us — we find the cause, relieve the pain, and treat the tooth so the same problem doesn't return next month. Whether it's a dull ache that flares when you chew, a sharp jolt with hot or cold, or a throbbing toothache that kept you awake all night, our team at R.S. Puram and Saibaba Colony treats tooth pain every single day. We're open all seven days, 10:00 AM to 8:30 PM, so you don't have to wait out a weekend in pain.

You're far from alone in this. In a study of more than 6,700 patients at an Indian dental outpatient department, around 61% of adults aged 17–60 reported toothache as a presenting complaint. Tooth pain is the most common reason people finally see a dentist — and in almost every case it has a specific, treatable cause.

Toothache treatment in Coimbatore

What is your tooth pain telling you?

The way your tooth hurts is the first diagnostic clue, and it usually points to the treatment you'll need. Tooth decay sits behind most of it: pooled research across India puts dental caries at around 54% of the population, rising to roughly 62% among adults, and Tamil Nadu has historically recorded rates above the national average. When decay reaches the nerve inside the tooth, pain is how the tooth tells you it's running out of time.

Here's how we read the most common pain patterns at our clinics — and where each usually leads:

How the pain feelsWhat it usually meansWhere it usually leads
Sharp twinge with sweets, hot or cold that fades in secondsEarly decay, a worn filling, or an exposed root surfaceA tooth-coloured filling or desensitising treatment — the easiest stage to treat
Lingering pain with hot or cold that lasts 30 seconds or moreDecay or a crack reaching the pulp (the nerve inside the tooth)Usually root canal treatment to save the tooth
Constant throbbing, worse at night or when lying downInfected or dying pulp, often with an abscess forming at the rootSame-day attention — root canal where the tooth can be saved, extraction where it can't
Pain on biting or chewing on one specific toothA cracked tooth, a high filling, or infection at the root tipBite adjustment, a crown / tooth cap, or root canal depending on the cause
Pain and swelling at the back of the jaw, hard to open the mouthAn erupting or impacted wisdom tooth, often with gum infection around itWisdom tooth removal after assessment and X-ray
Sore, bleeding gums with aching around several teethGum infection (gingivitis) or pyorrhea (periodontitis) rather than the tooth itselfGum treatment — scaling, deep cleaning or laser-assisted therapy
Dull ache in the jaw joint or near the ear, worse on wakingOften not a tooth at all — jaw joint (TMJ) strain or night-time grindingAssessment by our TMJ specialist — see jaw pain treatment
A starting point, not a diagnosis. A pattern in this table is only a starting point — two very different problems can produce the same pain. That's why we never treat a toothache on guesswork: a short clinical exam and a small X-ray tell us exactly which of these you're dealing with before anything else happens.

Emergency tooth pain treatment

When is tooth pain an emergency?

Most toothaches can wait a day or two for a convenient slot. Some can't. Come in the same day — or call us first thing — if you have any of these:

See us the same day for any of these

  • Swelling of the face, jaw or gum — a spreading dental abscess needs urgent drainage and treatment, not just antibiotics.
  • Fever alongside tooth pain — a sign the infection is moving beyond the tooth.
  • Severe, unrelenting pain that painkillers no longer touch — typically an inflamed or dying nerve that needs same-day intervention.
  • A knocked-out, broken or badly cracked tooth after an injury — the sooner we see it, the more of the tooth we can usually save.
  • Bleeding that doesn't stop after an extraction or injury.

Because both our branches run all seven days until 8:30 PM, emergency tooth pain in Coimbatore rarely has to wait for us. Call ahead and our front desk will keep a slot for you — evenings and Sundays included.

Tooth pain relief, then the fix

How do we diagnose and treat tooth pain at Arasu Dental Care?

Tooth pain treatment is really two jobs done in the right order: stop the pain today, and fix the cause so it stays fixed. Here's what your visit looks like:

1

Examination and X-ray

We examine the painful tooth and the teeth around it, test how it responds to temperature and pressure, and take a small digital X-ray (IOPA) of the area. Where the picture is more complex — deep infection, wisdom teeth, or pain we need to trace across the jaw — we use an OPG or CBCT scan. This is what separates treating the cause from just quieting the symptom.

2

Immediate pain relief

Once we know the cause, relief usually starts the same visit: numbing the tooth, opening and draining an abscess, starting the first stage of a root canal, removing a hopeless tooth, or placing a sedative dressing. You should not leave our clinic in the same pain you walked in with.

3

Treating the cause

The definitive treatment depends on what the exam and X-ray show. If decay hasn't reached the nerve, a filling done that day is often all it takes. When the pulp is infected, root canal treatment removes the infected tissue, disinfects the canals and seals the tooth — at Arasu Dental Care this is handled by Dr. L.S. Priyanka, our MDS endodontist, who has performed more than 1,000 root canal procedures. Done well, root canal treatment succeeds in around 95% of cases across modern practice, which is why we save the tooth rather than remove it whenever it's viable.

Where a tooth genuinely can't be saved — a fracture below the gum line, or decay that has destroyed too much structure — our oral and maxillofacial surgeon, Dr. P.R. Gouthaman, MDS, handles the extraction, including surgical and impacted-tooth cases, under appropriate anaesthesia. And when the pain traces back to your gums or jaw joint rather than a tooth, we route you to the right specialist within the same team — our periodontist for gum infection, our TMJ specialist for joint-related pain — instead of treating the wrong thing.

A root-canal-treated back tooth usually needs a crown afterwards to protect it from cracking; we'll tell you plainly whether yours does, and you can read how caps work on our dental crowns page.

Why waiting costs more

Why don't painkillers and home remedies solve a toothache?

28%
of people in an Indian community study reported dental pain within just six months — and nearly half of those managed it with over-the-counter medication instead of treatment.
Untreated
National survey data shows the "filled tooth" component in Indian caries data is negligibly small — most decay in India simply goes untreated until it hurts too much to ignore.

Painkillers and home remedies are the most common first response — and the most common reason a small problem becomes a big one. The problem is that a painkiller only mutes the alarm — the decay or infection underneath keeps progressing. A twinge that a small filling would have fixed becomes a root canal; an infection a root canal would have resolved becomes an abscess and, sometimes, a lost tooth. Each step up costs more, takes longer, and hurts more than the one before it. Clove oil and salt-water rinses can tide you over for a night; they cannot remove infected pulp from inside a tooth.

One warning worth knowing: if a severe toothache suddenly stops on its own, that is not always good news. It can mean the nerve inside the tooth has died — the pain goes quiet while the infection continues into the bone. A tooth that hurt badly and then went silent still needs an X-ray.

Straight talk

What we'll be honest with you about

What we'll tell you plainly

  • Relief timelines vary by cause. A filling stops sensitivity almost immediately. After a root canal or extraction, soreness typically settles over a few days as the tissue heals — we'll tell you what's normal for your treatment and what isn't. Individual results vary based on the extent of infection and your overall health.
  • Not every tooth can be saved. We always prefer saving your natural tooth, but when the damage is beyond restoration we'll say so clearly and walk you through replacement options rather than sell you a treatment that's likely to fail.
  • Antibiotics alone don't fix a dental infection. They can control the spread while we treat, but the source — the infected pulp or tooth — still has to be dealt with. A prescription without treatment only postpones the same pain.
  • Sometimes the tooth isn't the problem. Sinus pressure, jaw-joint strain and night grinding can all masquerade as toothache. If your exam points away from the teeth, we'll tell you that too — and direct you to the right care instead of drilling a healthy tooth.

Why Arasu

Why treat your tooth pain at Arasu Dental Care?

Tooth pain doesn't respect business hours, and it doesn't announce in advance whether it needs a filling, a root canal, an extraction or gum treatment. That's why the two things that matter most in a tooth-pain clinic are availability and range.

Open when the pain hits

Monday to Sunday, 10:00 AM to 8:30 PM, at both branches — rare in this market, and the difference between treating a Saturday-night toothache on Sunday morning versus Monday evening.

The right specialist is already here

An MDS endodontist with more than 1,000 root canals behind her, an oral and maxillofacial surgeon for complex extractions, a periodontist with laser-assisted training, and the founder — an orthodontist and TMJ pain specialist. You aren't referred out mid-problem; you're walked down the corridor.

Comfort-first for anxious patients

Toothache patients usually are anxious. We offer sedation options for longer procedures, and a comfort-first approach our patient reviews mention again and again. Individual experiences vary.

You know the cost before we start

The goal never changes: you leave knowing what caused the pain, what we did about it, and what it cost before we did it — with EMI available for larger plans.

FAQs

Tooth pain treatment — frequently asked questions

At Arasu Dental Care, the consultation and X-ray that identify the cause cost roughly ₹500–₹800 combined. The treatment itself ranges from a simple filling to root canal treatment (₹5,000–₹7,000 per tooth) or extraction (₹1,500–₹8,000 depending on complexity). We confirm your exact cost after diagnosis and before any treatment begins.

In most cases, yes. Both branches are open all seven days until 8:30 PM — call ahead and tell our front desk it's a severe toothache, and we'll prioritise a slot for you, including Sundays.

The treatments that fix tooth pain are done under local anaesthesia, so the area is fully numbed — most patients find a root canal feels much like having a filling done. The pain you're already in from the infection is what we're removing. Some soreness for a few days afterwards is normal and manageable; results vary from person to person.

Lying down increases blood pressure in the head, which raises pressure inside an inflamed tooth. There are also fewer distractions at night, so the pain registers more. Night-time throbbing usually points to pulp inflammation or infection — a sign the tooth needs treatment soon, not just another painkiller.

No. Painkillers reduce the symptom while the decay or infection underneath continues to progress. They're appropriate for a night or two until your appointment — not as the treatment plan. If a painkiller has stopped working entirely, treat that as a signal to come in the same day.

Yes, and promptly. When severe pain suddenly disappears, it often means the nerve inside the tooth has died. The infection doesn't stop — it moves quietly into the bone, where it can form an abscess. An X-ray tells us whether the tooth is genuinely fine or silently getting worse.

It depends on how far the problem has gone: sensitivity or early decay usually means a filling; pain that lingers or throbs usually means root canal treatment; a tooth broken beyond saving means extraction and, later, replacement; gum-related aching means periodontal care. The examination and X-ray at your first visit answer this definitively — we'll show you the X-ray and explain the options before anything is decided.

Still have a question? Call either branch, or book a visit and we'll answer it in person — open all 7 days. For other symptoms, start at our dental problems guide.
