Dental Cleaning for Children in Coimbatore

A professional cleaning is the simplest treatment we offer a child — and one of the most protective. At Arasu Dental Care, a kids' teeth cleaning removes the plaque and tartar that home brushing leaves behind, so cavities don't get the head start they need. Research across India suggests nearly one in two children under six already has early childhood caries, and most of it begins in plaque that was never fully cleared. A gentle cleaning every six months — from the first full set of milk teeth through the teenage years — is how we keep your child off that statistic.

Where To Start

Does your child need a professional cleaning?

Every child with a full set of milk teeth benefits from a cleaning roughly every six months — that's the baseline. But some signs tell us a child needs one sooner rather than later.

Yellow or brown deposits along the gum line that brushing doesn't remove — that's tartar, and once it hardens, no toothbrush can take it off.

Chalky white spots near the gums — often the very first, still-reversible stage of decay.

Bleeding gums during brushing, or persistent bad breath — early gum irritation from plaque buildup.

Braces or other appliances — brackets trap food, and children in orthodontic treatment need cleanings more often.

A history of bottle-feeding at night or frequent snacking — both raise decay risk sharply in young children.

Never had a dental visit at all? We usually pair the first cleaning with a child dental checkup to assess development and catch anything early in the same appointment.

One honest boundary: a cleaning removes buildup — it doesn't repair damage. If we find a cavity during the visit, we'll show it to you and explain the options, usually a tooth-coloured filling, before doing anything beyond the cleaning itself.

What To Expect

What happens during your child's cleaning at Arasu

The whole visit typically takes 20–30 minutes. We treat children at their pace — our team uses the tell-show-do approach, where every instrument is shown and explained in child-friendly terms before it goes anywhere near their mouth. Here's the sequence.

STEP 1

A gentle look first

We examine the teeth and gums, point out to you (and to older kids) exactly where plaque is collecting, and check for early white-spot lesions.

STEP 2

Scaling — scaled down for children

Using fine ultrasonic tips at low settings, we lift plaque and hardened tartar from the teeth and just under the gum line. On very young or anxious children we often use hand instruments alone — slower, but quieter and gentler.

STEP 3

Polishing

A soft rotating cup with child-safe polishing paste smooths the enamel and removes surface stains, which also makes it harder for plaque to re-attach.

STEP 4

Fluoride, where it's indicated

For children with white spots, deep grooves or higher decay risk, we recommend finishing with a fluoride application in the same sitting — it strengthens young enamel at exactly the moment it's cleanest.

STEP 5

Coaching that sticks

We finish by showing your child — on their own teeth — where they're missing when they brush, and give you a straightforward routine for home: technique, toothpaste amount for their age, and snack timing.

There are no injections and nothing is drilled. Most children describe the ultrasonic scaler as “tickly”; the polishing, most of them actively enjoy.

At Arasu, children's cleanings are carried out by our pediatric team and supervised by , our Children's Dentistry Lead — with orthodontic and specialist review available in the same clinic when a cleaning uncovers something more.

Who cleans your child's teeth

A pediatric team, not a squeezed-in slot

Children's cleanings at Arasu are led by dentists who treat children every day. Day-to-day pediatric care is handled by our dentist (BDS, FAD), with orthodontic and specialist review available under the same roof.

The Real Question

How we clean the teeth of a child who's scared of the dentist

For many parents this is the real question — not whether a cleaning helps, but whether their child will sit through one. It's something we manage every day. Our approach is built on patience rather than restraint: tell-show-do before every step, distraction and positive reinforcement during, and permission for your child to pause the moment anything feels like too much. Parents are welcome chairside throughout.

For children with severe anxiety or special needs, sedation options are available for longer procedures — though for a routine cleaning, we almost never need them. A calm first cleaning is also the strongest investment in every future visit: a child whose first dental memory is easy rarely becomes an adult who avoids the dentist.

Straight Answers

What a cleaning does — and what it doesn't

We'd rather set expectations plainly than oversell a simple procedure.

What it does

  • It prevents. A cleaning stops decay from starting or progressing at its earliest stage — clearing the plaque and tartar where cavities begin.
  • Milk teeth are worth cleaning. Decayed milk teeth cause pain, infection and early tooth loss — and a milk tooth lost early lets neighbours drift, which is how crowding and orthodontic problems begin. Healthy milk teeth are the placeholders for a straight permanent set.

What it doesn't

  • It doesn't repair. Established cavities need a filling; that's a separate, honest conversation if we find one.
  • The result depends on home care. A cleaning resets the mouth to zero — what happens over the next six months is decided at your bathroom sink. That's why the coaching step matters as much as the scaling.
Frequency varies with risk. Six-monthly is the general rule; children with braces, high decay risk or enamel defects may need cleanings every three to four months. We'll tell you honestly which interval your child actually needs — not a blanket schedule. Results depend on your child's home care and individual risk.

Cost

What does a kids' teeth cleaning cost in Coimbatore?

We keep pricing transparent so you can plan the visit before you book. At Arasu Dental Care, a child's professional cleaning falls within our standard cleaning fee range.

ServiceFee at ArasuTypical visit
Child dental cleaning (scaling & polishing, per session)₹1,500 – ₹3,00020–30 minutes, single visit
Consultation / first examination₹300 – ₹500Often combined with the cleaning visit

My 4-year-old had never sat in a dental chair. They showed her every instrument first and let her hold the little mirror — the cleaning was done before she realised. She called the scaler “tickly”. No fuss at all.

KKarthik R.

My son wears braces and food gets stuck constantly. His cleaning here was thorough and they showed him exactly where he keeps missing when he brushes. Booked his next one every three months as they suggested.

PPriya M.

Honest about what my daughter needed — just a cleaning and fluoride, no treatment pushed. They explained why the fluoride helped before applying it. I stayed right next to her the whole time.

SSuresh V.

Sunday evening slot after the kids' classes — impossible at most clinics. Both children cleaned in one visit, calm and quick, everything shown to us on screen.

Results vary from child to child based on age, diet, home care and individual risk. Patient results shown may not be typical.

FAQs

Kids' teeth cleaning — common questions from parents

Once the full set of milk teeth is in — usually around age 2½ to 3 — a gentle cleaning becomes part of the routine checkup. Before that, we focus on examining the teeth and coaching parents on cleaning at home.

No injections, no drilling. We use fine ultrasonic tips at low settings — or hand instruments alone for very young children — and most kids describe the sensation as tickly. If your child is anxious, we go step by step and pause whenever they need.

Every six months for most children. Kids with braces, frequent snacking habits or a history of cavities may need a cleaning every three to four months — we'll recommend the interval honestly based on your child's actual risk, not a fixed schedule.

Yes. Decay in milk teeth causes pain and infection now, and losing a milk tooth early lets the neighbouring teeth drift — a common starting point for crowding that later needs braces. Clean milk teeth protect the permanent set forming underneath them.

At Arasu Dental Care a child's cleaning is ₹1,500–₹3,000 per session, confirmed at the consultation before we start. Consultation is ₹300–₹500 and is usually combined with the cleaning visit.

Not always. We recommend fluoride in the same sitting when there are early white spots, deep grooves or higher decay risk — and we'll explain why before applying it. For low-risk children, the cleaning alone is enough.

Yes — parents are welcome chairside throughout the appointment at both branches. For many children, a parent in the room is the single biggest comfort factor.
