Transparent, per-tooth estimates

Dental filling cost in Coimbatore

What you pay for a tooth filling depends mostly on the material, the size of the cavity and how many surfaces of the tooth it covers. At Arasu, fillings start from ₹300 for a GIC filling and ₹800 for a natural, tooth-coloured composite — up to about ₹12,000 for a lab-made ceramic inlay — and you get a clear, written estimate after we examine the tooth.

Full breakdown

What goes into the price of a filling

A filling fee mostly tracks how big the cavity is — a small single-surface filling costs far less than one rebuilding several surfaces of a molar. Typical per-tooth totals by size:

Filling typeSmall (1 surface)Medium / large (2–3 surfaces)Typical total per tooth
GIC (glass-ionomer)₹300 – ₹500₹500 – ₹800₹300 – ₹800
Silver amalgam₹500 – ₹700₹700 – ₹1,200₹500 – ₹1,200
Composite (tooth-coloured)₹800 – ₹1,800₹2,000 – ₹4,000₹800 – ₹4,000
Ceramic inlay / onlay₹4,000 – ₹12,000₹4,000 – ₹12,000

If the decay has reached the nerve, the tooth may need a root canal rather than a filling — that is a separate treatment, quoted separately. You get a written, itemised estimate so you know exactly what is included before anything starts.

Totals shown are typical per-tooth ranges by cavity size; they exclude any root-canal treatment or crown, which are priced on their own. EMI options are available.

Cost-affecting factors

Why the price of a filling varies

Two cavities rarely cost the same to fill — here's what moves the figure for yours.

The material

GIC, silver amalgam, tooth-coloured composite or a lab-made ceramic inlay — each is priced differently for its strength, appearance and how it's placed.

Size & number of surfaces

A small single-surface cavity uses little material and chair time; a large cavity across two or three surfaces of the tooth costs more to rebuild.

Which tooth it is

A visible front tooth is filled with a carefully shade-matched composite; a hard-chewing back molar may take a tougher material or an inlay.

How deep the decay is

A deep cavity near the nerve may need a protective liner or pulp cap first — and if it reaches the nerve, a root canal instead, which is quoted separately.

Number of fillings

Filling several teeth in one plan is quoted together, and EMI options make a multi-tooth plan easier to manage.

Direct vs lab-made

A filling placed chairside in one visit costs less than an indirect inlay/onlay, which is custom-made in a lab and bonded at a second visit.

FAQs

Filling cost questions, answered

At Arasu, a GIC (glass-ionomer) filling starts from about ₹300, tooth-coloured composite fillings run ₹800–₹4,000 per tooth depending on size and number of surfaces, and lab-made ceramic inlays/onlays range up to ₹12,000. You get a written estimate after the tooth is examined, with EMI available.

Composite is bonded to the tooth in layers, shade-matched to your enamel and cured with a light — it takes more chair time and skill than a silver amalgam, which is why it costs more. It looks natural and preserves more of the tooth, which is why most patients choose it for teeth that show.

A larger or deeper cavity needs more material and may need a liner or pulp protection; a cavity across several surfaces costs more than a small single-surface one. If the decay has reached the nerve, the tooth may need a root canal rather than a filling — a separate treatment, quoted separately, and we tell you before starting.

Yes. We offer EMI and flexible payment plans, which help when several teeth need filling in one plan. Fillings placed to treat decay are sometimes partly covered by health or dental insurance — we can give you an itemised estimate to submit to your provider.

With good hygiene, composite fillings commonly last 5–10 years and ceramic inlays longer; GIC fillings are shorter-lived and often used as an interim or in low-stress areas. Lifespan depends on the size of the filling, the tooth it's on and your bite — we plan for the longest-lasting sensible option, not just the cheapest.
